Choctaw Cemetery Inscriptions

The Choctaw Cemetery is located in an open field northeast of Sandersville in northeastern Jones County, Mississippi. From Highway 11 in downtown Sandersville, head north on Highway 11 for 7/10th miles. Turn right (east) on Florence Church Road. Travel for 2 miles until you reach a T-intersection. Turn left (north) on McFarland Road, traveling for 4/10 mile. The Choctaw Cemetery lies on your left. The cemetery is commercially active and burials continue to be made there. The photo at right was taken within the cemetery looking North. Cemetery coordinates are: 31° 47' 47" N, 088° 59' 22"W.

The (double marker) note means two separate headstones with surname
between resting on a double base. The
(double base) means two separate headstones (with full names) resting on a
double base. Row numbers were
determined as best I could using the cemetery layout and may not necessarily
agree with any other compilation (if any) or official cemetery or church
records. Abbreviations used here
are as follows: BB = Brick Border; CB = Concrete Border; (CS) = Concrete Slab;
DM = Double Marker; DBS = Double Base; (FHM) = Funeral Home Marker; FM = Foot
Marker; FS = Foot Stone; GB = Granite Border; GS = Granite Slab; (SM) = Stone
Marker; (GLV) = Ground Level Vault.
Choctaw Cemetery has not been completely cataloged and indexed. I plan to complete work on Choctaw as soon as time permits.
NOTE: Hurricane Katrina's eye passed almost directly over the Sandersville area, downing trees and causing damage to the plots in the Choctaw Cemetery. There were 2 gentlemen cleaning up the cemetery as I began work on indexing it. My heartfelt thanks to those unnamed gentlemen who were taking their own time to clean the cemetery up.
